so i have officially moved again - for very real - change of address and all - me and eric are living together finally and its amazing - we live in crown heights and are off a bunch of different train lines - the A C 3 and the LIRR - needless to say its great!

the thing is - i just moved - and am feeling really exhausted by the whole process of putting everything i own into boxes and having to deal with the shit under your bed that you put there so that you dont have to deal with it - so here is my top five most annoying things about moving -

1 - PACKING YOUR LIFE UP - i dont want to be reminded of the garbage of life - i really dont

2 - the change of address - bills - important things stuff - dont even get me started

3 - the mess - jesus how did i live with all this dust in my life

4 - the stuff you need to buy again and again - trash cans? plungers? ugh

5 - putting furniture together - can’t we just buy new ones that are already together and delivered to the spot i want them in?

….

and because i am trying this positivity thing - here is my top five great things about moving - because the process sucks but the end result is in fact awesome

1 - you actually get to do a good clean and purge and at the end of the day that feels great

2 - new stuff is kind of cool - i secretly like shopping for the house

3 - a chance to reorganize your life - move your furniture and get out of that old rut you were in is really good for the soul!

4 - i have two kitties now - i know terence is sad but its better than reality tv

5 - ERIC is here ALL THE TIME - nothing like nesting - its melting my little heart

5 things i have realized since moving back to NY

1 - New York is a fucking crazy city - it really is - there arent just a few random strange things going on here - there is always some crazy shit going down - some guy yelling on the subway - some horse cop freaking out and running a muck in traffic in the city - some fucking guy walking around with a snake on his neck on a wednesday afternoon - you see fucking insane shit here ALL THE TIME and you just have to get used to it

2 - this city smells fucking awful - seriously - how on earth did i not notice how bad it was when i lived here before

3 - new yorkers are in love with themselves - this is pretty obvious but hilarious to realize once again

4 - new yorkers LOVE to fight - and fight they will - they YELL and PUNCH and PUSH and go fucking crazy at the drop of a dime - I saw two OLD OLD men with grey hair get in a fist fight around the corner from my house - i kind of secretly love this one - i totally fight with people all the time and definitely punched the window of an SUV that almost ran me over the other than and proceeded to have a screaming match with him for 5 minutes - AWESOME

5 - this city is filled with gorgeous people - period

so i am at work and i am behind the counter by myself for a short while - which is so strange - to be alone and at work - to be responsible for whatever happens - i also keep thinking of how quickly life has changed for me - four months ago i was in front of a classroom - now i am behind a counter - it seems like a whole other lifetime ago - like i am not that person anymore somehow -

so i am - for the millionth time in my life - going down on coffee - to which my dear friend julia decided was some kind of coffee pornography in the making - which i can verify the untruth of here and now - me and coffee broke up years ago - this is just the caffeine thing - i swear

at any rate - i sit here in front of my computer - stressed out and messy over life things - like taxes bills and that sort of thing - and i am not looking at my delicious creamy fresh cup of coffee - nope - i look now at tea - plain old tea - and i look at this tea longingly to wake me up and to provide me with the comfort and stability that coffee provides - but also - to regulate my jitters - to not stress me out or fuck with my brain - i wonder if its capable - i wonder if coffee will notice i have not indulged this morning - i wonder if coffee is mad

10 - make mix cd’s for all my friends

hiatus

yes my friends - i have taken a long and ridiculous hiatus in order to adjust to my new life - find a job - “slow down”- figure out how i feel about being an academic - about york - about my diss - and i am slowly but surely doing that - but i meant to get back on the blogging track pretty quickly - and instead i got on the 40 hours a week on my feet track really quickly and i spend almost NO TIME online at all anymore when three short months ago i couldnt be teared away from it - i am losing track of dooce and kaybeeblog

I can’t even deal with what a bad emailer i have been - like really really bad - that is SO NOT LIKE ME -

at any rate - i must accept these things - and fill you all in on the info that is relevant while i am sitting at my computer -

1 - i live in a house of 10 other people - yes there are 11 of us - and its awesome - three apartments - and all of them are incredible people that i LOVE - we make music videos and watch alot of lword - yes its true i got into lword - but its easy to suck you in -

2 - i work at Vosge Haut Chocolat and i eat ALOT of chocolate - like pretty serously amazing amounts - and its awesome - i also work with the mayor and julia martin - which is pretty stupendous - i couldnt have asked for a more reassuring job when i am in transition - chocolate makes me feel better -

3 - me and eric finally live in the same place and its awesome - we sleep in and dont have to worry about going back and forth to buffalo - he meets me in soho all the time and we hang out and watch twin peaks and giggle alot - he is a gem and its been incredible to be with him all the time -

4 - probably the biggest change has been not being a student or teaching or affiliated with a university in any way - the leave of absence is working out in a BIG way - all i think about while i am working at vosges is how fucking burnt out i was with school - and how good it will feel to go back well rested - i need to stop treating it like a rat race and start treating it like what it actually is - something i enjoy doing. {you’ll notice i used a period there - that means business} we shall see what else comes from this break - time will tell

so thats it - my life in brooklyn is a whole other ballgame now - welcome to the show

so i am writing this post from my iphone…..yes my friends I have an iphone! its kind of a ridiculous story but iI now have the internet in my pocket 24/7 and its pretty fucking great!! its not made for serious typing so i will keep this short but iI am still getting settled in ny. its great to be here but still surreal. i miss my canadians like its my job though… more to come once i get my computer onto a desk which has yet to happen so be patient with me friends
